Lana Blaine's unrequited love for her boss Troy Savant has spanned five years. Rejected mercilessly, she decided to quit and start afresh. “Do you like me, Lana?” He said.
Lana looked at him not saying anything for a full minute. He came closer to her face, making her unable to think logically.
“I asked if you like me?” he asked again.
“Yes,” she answered, looking at him straight in the eye.
Troy had been teasing her. He had never expected her to answer in the affirmative. His expressions changed suddenly, from playful to confused, then to cold and unreadable. Lana’s heart was pounding waiting for him to respond.
Then, he laughed. Lana felt something in her heart tear painfully. She swallowed, not able to utter a word. Tears threatened to brim over her eyes.
“Uh, excuse me,” she said. Not meeting his eyes, she pushed her way out from where he had trapped her between his arms, and back through the club’s side door.
